Perineal access provides entry into the urethra, making rigid cystourethroscopy possible in male dogs over 10 kg. This minimally invasive approach allows direct visualization of the urethra, bladder, and urethrovesical junctions—critical for procedures such as laser ablation of ectopic ureters, sclerotherapy, ureteroscopy for idiopathic renal hemorrhage, ureteral stent placement, injection of urethral bulking agents, and even bladder mass removal.

In this interactive, small-group cadaver lab, participants will gain hands-on experience with the equipment and techniques needed to successfully perform this procedure.

This hands-on laboratory will provide participants with practical experience in urinary diversion techniques commonly used to manage obstructive or traumatic lower urinary tract disease in emergency settings. The session will review relevant anatomy, indications, and required equipment for each technique. Using cadavers and training models, the placement of urinary catheters will be demonstrated and discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to practice catheter placement and to review troubleshooting strategies and potential complications associated with these procedures.
